Tawa Creek Waterfall

Tawa Creek is a little known gem on the Taidong/Pingdong county line.  Tour buses full of hikers are dropped off at Tawa Creek to hike a popular coastal trail but very few hike up Tawa Creek.  I woke up early expecting to see the perfect sunrise over the ocean but clouds rolled in overnight.  I decided to take a short walk up Tawa Creek with only my camera and returned to my car 7 hours later.

The hike:   Tawa Creek is an easy walk as long as as you don’t mind getting your shoes wet.  There is a small waterfall about 2kms from the parking lot on the left side of the creek.  I hiked another 2 kms and I’m convinced that there is a big waterfall further upstream.  Caution is advised if heavy rains have recently fallen in the area because you have to cross the creek multiple times.

How to get there:  Tawa Creek is located exactly on the Taidong/Pingdong county line.  Turn south onto highway 26 near Daren and follow the road as far as it goes.  The last 1-2 kms is gravel and could be difficult in the car.
