Taoshan Waterfall is one of the major attractions at Wuling Farm for those not hiking the high mountains. The trail is a concrete path which some hikers might not like but it is wheelchair accessible. For other hikers this will be a minor detour on their multi-day Wuling Sixiu hike. Others will come to Wuling Farm to see the peach and cherry blossoms during the spring and this is the best dayhike in the park.
Rating and length – moderate – 8-9 kms (3 hours)
Accessibility – Excellent road for all cars and the trail is wheelchair accessible (might have a little difficulty getting around a gate at the beginning)
How to get there – The easiest way to get there is to drive up Hwy 7 (becomes 7甲) from Yilan (about 2.5 hours) but you can also get there from the Northern Cross Island Hwy, Hehuanshan and Taroko Gorge. Regardless of what route you take it is recommended that you stay at least one night. Wuling Farm is clearly signed off of Hwy 7甲.
The hike – The hike starts at Wuling Villa (bathrooms and small snack shop) on an old concrete road. The road is graded the entire way and although it presents a little challenge (gains 100m every km) it can be hiked by all ages. After 1 km of hiking in a pine tree forest there is a side trail to Taoshan Peak (permit required) and a pavilion shortly after. Near the waterfall there is a side trail to the Wuling Sixiu mountaineering route. There are bathrooms and pavilions near the waterfall.
Entrance fee (to Wuling Farm) – 160/80 per person and 50/10 per car/motorcycle
Accomodation – Rooms cost 3000-6000/night (book well in advance) – Campsites cost 1000-1800/site (reservations probably not needed)
