Pura Ulun Danu Batur was relocated after a 1917 eruption of Gunung Batur. Originally the temple was located inside the crater near the lake but the eruption killed 1000 people, most of the village was damaged and all but the highest shrine of the temple. The temple and the village moved up to the crater rim to its current location. The temple is very nice and it has great views of Danau (Lake) Batur and the three large peaks (Batur, Abang and Agung).
How to get there – Pura Danu Ulun Batur is located along the crater rim near the rather unimpressive Kintimani (dirty and surprisingly expensive). It is about 4 kms north of Kintimani Backpackers Lakeside and Volcano Museum. Pura Tuluk Bitu Batur is located right next door to Pura Ulun Danu Batur and you could mistakenly enter this temple (I did). Honestly it was nearly as impressive as the more famous temple but you will have to pay two entrance fees to see both.
What to see – there are two large courtyards with many intricate walls and pagodas. There is also an impressive view of the crater.
Entrance cost – 15,000 IDR/person (maybe 10,000 IDR)
Special requirements – possibly required to wear a sarong and sash even if you have long pants
