Pura Puncak Penulisan is the highest (elevation = 1745 m) and possibly the oldest temple (300 BC) in Bali. Not only is it at a high elevation but visitors will have to walk up 400-500 stairs and 11 terraces. It offers outstanding views of not only Gunung Batur, Gunung Abang and Gunung Agung but also of the peaks of the Three Lakes region.
How to get there – It is located about 10 kms north of the Kintamani Backpackers Lakeside at a sharp curve in the road. You will know you are there when you see a set of infinity stairs.
What to see – There are of course outstanding views of much of Bali but the most unusual part of the temple are the large statues that have been preserved. These are located in the upper courtyard.
Entrance cost – I’m sorry but I can’t find my notes (maybe 10,000 to 20,000 IDR/person)
Special requirements – All visitors must wear a sarong and sash even if wearing long pants
