Guyan Waterfall

Guyan Waterfall is a small and rarely visited waterfall near Wufeng, Hsinchu. There used to be a trail up to the waterfall but only about half of that remains. The other half is a challenging and not that fun river trace up to the top.

How to get there – Take county road 122 south from provincial road 3 to Wufeng Village. Turn left and go down the hill on the windy road to the river. Park on the side of the road on the other side of the river.

Mass transit – Bus 5628 (every 40 minutes) and 5630 (every 2 hr 10 min) leave Hsinchu East Bus Station and stop in Wufeng. It will be <1km walk to the waterfall.

The hike –Figuring out where to go is pretty easy but getting there is an entirely different matter. The trailhead leaves from bridge and goes upstream for about 10 minutes on an old and slightly overgrown trail. Cross the stream at an old wooden bridge. After this you will have to improvise between random little paths on either side of the stream and simply going up the creek. It isn’t very far but it will be challenging. I recommend bringing water shoes and a helmet in case of a slip or fall.
