Qinglong Waterfall (青龍瀑布) is one of those secret places that you really don’t understand why very few people go there. The waterfall drops into a beautiful bowl that is perfect for swimming. The rest of the area near Qinglong Waterfall is what makes the area special though. At the beginning of the hike you need to cross a bamboo bridge above a beautiful gorge. There are also many pools downstream of the waterfall.
Rating and length – moderately easy – 1 km (1 hour) round trip
Accessibility – Hwy 3 is major highway – the last 1 km is on a poor secondary road – no trail – walk on rocks to the waterfall
Estimated height – 20-25 meters
Elevation – 400 meters
How to get there – Turn east off of Hwy 3 at km marker 322. Right after the turn it passes through a farm with angry dogs. The road (maybe 1km) isn’t great but passable especially on scooters. You don’t want to drive your cars past the first big switchback. There is room to park 1 or 2 cars here. Motorcycles can almost go all the way to the bamboo bridge.
The hike – There is very little hiking required but Caoshan Stream has nearly endless swimming and tracing opportunities. All hikers must cross a bamboo bridge that is high (30+m) above an amazing gorge. This will be difficult for those with a fear of heights. After that Chinglong Waterfall is a 10 minute hike up the east branch of the stream. Downriver is Sanlong Waterfall and there are also small waterfalls up the west branch (main branch) of the stream.
Seasonality – Dry from December to April most years
