Sumbiling Rainforest Trek

Sumbiling Eco Village (Borneo Guide) has several different length rainforest treks and overnight camping trips to pick from.

Rating and Length – Standard day trek – 5+ kms and moderately easy – be careful with the heat – longer treks are available

How to get there – You will need to setup your daytrip or overnight trip with Borneo Guide.  Treks leave from Sumbiling Eco Village.

The hike – Typically you are assigned two guides for the trek.  One is a local Iban villager (speaks Malay but not English) and the second speaks English.  First you cross the Temburong River in a longboat.  Don’t worry you do nothing and your guides steer the boat.  After that you go up a small hill and the guides show you a couple of traditional hunting snares used by the local Iban villagers.  The rainforest trail winds through several different types of trees, an emergency helicopter evac area and crosses a couple of streams.  It will be muddy if it has rained recently.

Tip – use the rubber shoes provided by Sumbiling Eco Lodge but wear socks with them to minimize rubbing.
